Sportswear brand ANTA Philippines has tapped a new wave of collegiate basketball players as its latest athlete-ambassadors, just in time for the upcoming NCAA Season 102 and UAAP Season 89.

The newest batch of ANTA athletes includes Letran Knights’ Chad Gammad, who recently found himself in the spotlight after his relationship with PBA courtside reporter Apple David became public. Joining Gammad are UST Growling Tigers’ Carl Manding and UE Lady Warriors’ Rachel Lacayanga.

While further details of the agreements were not disclosed, ANTA Philippines marketing manager Mikko Abello said the deals include multi-year partnerships.

“We want to go into it for the long goal—we want to support them even beyond their college careers,” Abello said.

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) estimates that its total income for the year will decline to around P87 billion, down from P106 billion in 2025. Of that figure, P61 billion will be allocated to nation-building initiatives.

During its budget briefing before the House Committee on Appropriations, PAGCOR reported a total income of P43.32 billion for the first half of 2026. The agency attributed the downtrend to several factors, including the ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) and the delinking of e-wallets from e-gambling sites. PAGCOR's 2025 total income was also lower compared to its 2024 income of P111.7 billion.

"Bumaba po ito, dahil effective noong 2025 ipinagbawal na po 'yung POGOs. 'Yan po ay nawalan po tayo, projected for 2025, mga P10 billion ang nawala sa atin noon, your honor," said PAGCOR Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alejandro Tengco. He added that the delinking of e-wallets from customers, implemented in the last quarter of 2025, resulted in a roughly 40% downtrend in gaming activities.

While gaming activity rebounded somewhat in the early part of 2026, Tengco noted that the crisis in the Middle East also negatively impacted the market. However, PAGCOR has observed an "uptick" in tourist patronage at land-based casinos toward the end of July and early August. Tengco expressed optimism that if this trend continues, the agency could recover the weak revenue recorded in the first half of the year.

House Committee on Appropriations Chairperson Mikaela Suansing pointed out that despite the projected P20 billion decline in PAGCOR's total income for 2026, its expected contributions to nation-building will decrease by only 8.3%. Tengco explained that this is partly due to a Supreme Court ruling mandating PAGCOR and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to remit a portion of their income to fund the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

"Ang kanila pong ruling, ang remittance po dapat ng PAGCOR ngayon sa Philippine Sports Commission, ay dapat po… 5% of our gross income," he said. He added that the agency is currently in discussions with the PSC regarding the payment, noting that the retroactive ruling requires PAGCOR to pay approximately P37 billion over a ten-year period following the agency's motion for reconsideration.

To boost revenues, PAGCOR is implementing programs aimed at encouraging illegal gaming operators to register. Tengco also said the agency seeks to enhance special class BPOs. He noted that while around half of current online gaming operators are illegal, this figure is significantly lower than the roughly 90% when he assumed his post.

"With our reforms, with the structure we have set up, medyo nakaangat na po, at sa ngayon, ang aming paniwala ay halos tabla na po," he explained. "Pero hindi pa po mahinto ang illegal online gaming operators, at ang masama rito, wala po sa Pilipinas sila. Sila po ay nasa abroad na gumagamit ng influencers na kababayan natin."

Meanwhile, Tengco told lawmakers that at least 6,000 employees are expected to be affected by the plan to privatize Casino Filipino. He said they will be provided with a regular retirement package and a special incentive package, and that the agency will also seek to have some of the affected employees absorbed by the buyer. PAGCOR projects to lose P6 billion from its Casino Filipino operations this year alone, according to Tengco.

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) has imposed a P1-million fine on gambling firm Casino Plus for sponsoring celebrity influencer Ivana Alawi's giveaway of 100 cellphones without securing the necessary promotional approval, a top official confirmed.

PAGCOR Chairperson Alejandro Tengco said the agency penalized the company and issued a stern warning that further violations could result in the suspension or even cancellation of its gaming license.

"We fined the online gaming company P1 million and, together with that, gave them a stern warning that this should not happen again," Tengco stated during the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations' hearing on the agency's 2027 budget.

"If this happens again, there will be a heavier fine, and the possibility that it can lead—another violation can lead to the suspension and ultimately, the cancellation of their license," he added.

Tengco clarified that the company failed to seek PAGCOR's permission for the promotion.

GMA News Online has reached out to Casino Plus for comment, but a statement was not immediately available.

Tengco's remarks followed a query from Kamanggagawa Party-list Representative Elijah Fernando, who flagged the promotion, which required participants to "like" the company's social media page to qualify for the giveaway.

In a separate development, PAGCOR projects its total income to decline to P86.498 billion this year, down from P106.031 billion in 2025. Tengco attributed the anticipated drop to a central bank order requiring e-wallets to disconnect from online gambling platforms, as well as the ongoing impact of the Middle East conflict on the market.

The agency also reported a 20% decline in gross gaming revenues (GGR) to P88.13 billion in the second quarter of 2026, compared to P110.63 billion in the same period last year. Licensed casinos remained the top revenue contributor, accounting for P45.37 billion.
