DAILY TRIBUNE and ArenaPlus have officially joined forces to launch the 1st ArenaPlus-KaTribu Pickleball Tournament, a major Independence Day sporting event set for June 12 at The Dink Lab Elite.
The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed by DAILY TRIBUNE Sports Editor Julius Manicad and ArenaPlus official representative Jasper Vicencio during a ceremony held at the company’s headquarters in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
As pickleball continues gaining momentum across the Philippines, the collaboration aims to further elevate the fast-rising sport by gathering nearly 300 participants for a full day of competition, community, and celebration. The event also carries historical significance as it coincides with the country’s 128th Independence Day celebration in Kawit, Cavite — the historic town where Philippine independence was first declared.
Branded as the “Dink-Dependence Day Showdown,” the tournament promises an exciting mix of sportsmanship and festive energy, offering cash prizes, trophies, medals, hotel accommodations, gift certificates, food vouchers, and other premium rewards for winners. Participants will also receive competition shirts, refreshments, and freebies from supporting sponsors, including the Philippine Sports Commission and JC Premiere.
The Villar Foundation will serve as the event’s benefactor, while additional support comes from the Department of Finance as well as Senators Bong Go and Mark Villar.
According to ArenaPlus representative Jasper Vicencio, the company’s support for the tournament reflects its broader commitment to helping Filipino athletes gain greater visibility beyond mainstream sports. He noted that while ArenaPlus has long supported basketball and volleyball, the platform is now actively expanding its involvement into golf, pickleball, and other emerging disciplines.
Vicencio shared that pickleball represents a growing sport with enormous potential, especially as more Filipinos continue excelling in international competitions. He emphasized that supporting events like the tournament helps showcase untapped athletic talent while creating more opportunities for grassroots sports development nationwide.
He also expressed enthusiasm about continuing ArenaPlus’ long-standing partnership with DAILY TRIBUNE, describing the collaboration as a natural extension of the strong relationship both organizations have built through previous projects and sports coverage initiatives.
Meanwhile, Julius Manicad thanked ArenaPlus for supporting the event and helping promote emerging sports at the grassroots level. He highlighted that the partnership reflects a shared mission to uplift Filipino athletes and create more opportunities for local sports communities.
To add more excitement to the celebration, special prizes will also be awarded to participants who arrive wearing their best Independence Day-themed outfits, blending patriotic spirit with the fun and competitive atmosphere of the tournament.
Through the collaboration, both ArenaPlus and DAILY TRIBUNE hope to strengthen support for pickleball in the Philippines while creating a memorable Independence Day event that combines sports, community engagement, and national pride.
