In the wake of the powerful earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao on June 8, DigiPlus Foundation has launched an emergency relief initiative aimed at supporting affected communities and families in the region.
The 7.8-magnitude earthquake caused widespread disruption across several areas in Southern Mindanao, damaging homes, infrastructure, and public facilities. Initial assessments from government agencies indicated that damages had already exceeded PHP 1 billion within the first day following the disaster.
As relief and recovery efforts continue, DigiPlus Foundation has introduced a dedicated Mindanao Earthquake Relief campaign through the Charity section of the BingoPlus app, providing users with an additional channel to support ongoing humanitarian efforts.
The Charity feature allows users to allocate Impact points earned within the platform toward various social development initiatives supported by the Foundation. These projects are aligned with DigiPlus Foundation’s key focus areas, including education, healthcare, community resilience, and empowerment.
To respond to the immediate needs of earthquake-affected communities, the Foundation launched a special relief project that will help provide food packs and essential supplies to families impacted by the disaster, particularly in General Santos City and nearby areas where significant damage was reported.
“We at DigiPlus Foundation immediately mobilized our teams following reports of the earthquake and have been coordinating closely with both public and private sector partners to facilitate assistance efforts,” said Angela Camins-Wieneke, Executive Director of DigiPlus Foundation.
“Through the dedicated project available on the Charity page, users can participate in supporting our relief initiatives as we work to provide immediate assistance to affected families. Our thoughts remain with everyone impacted by this disaster, and we hope these efforts can help communities begin their recovery journey,” she added.
The Foundation is currently working with local authorities and partner organizations to coordinate the distribution of relief goods and identify communities most in need of assistance. Additional support initiatives are also being assessed as recovery efforts continue.
Beyond emergency aid, DigiPlus Foundation said it remains committed to collaborating with government agencies, local organizations, and community stakeholders to better understand evolving needs on the ground and contribute to longer-term recovery efforts.
As Mindanao begins the challenging process of rebuilding, the Foundation aims to provide timely support while encouraging broader community participation through its ongoing charitable programs.
