Casino Plus’ Color Your World Foundation has stepped up its disaster response efforts in Mindanao, providing emergency assistance and temporary shelter to communities affected by the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake.
Through its flagship disaster resilience initiative, Project Bigkis, the foundation partnered with local government units to establish a temporary tent village in Barangay Lagao, General Santos City, offering immediate shelter to families displaced by the disaster.
As part of its relief operations, the foundation distributed livable tents and more than 2,000 gallons of clean drinking water to affected residents in Barangays Lagao and Calumpang, where many families continue to face challenges related to housing and access to essential resources.
Despite difficult conditions, including damaged infrastructure, heavy rainfall, and continuing aftershocks, volunteers remained on the ground to ensure aid reached affected communities.
“The needs of affected families remain urgent, and we recognize the importance of providing immediate support while helping communities begin the recovery process,” said Casino Plus Chief Executive Officer Evan Spytma.
“Our employees and volunteers are committed to standing with these communities—not only by delivering emergency assistance, but also by supporting long-term rebuilding efforts.”
The foundation’s relief package includes more than P3 million worth of assistance, consisting of 150 emergency tents, nearly 1,500 hygiene and medicine kits, over 1,000 solar-powered lamps, and potable water supplies for affected communities in General Santos City and Sarangani Province.
Community leaders welcomed the initiative, noting that the temporary shelters would provide much-needed support, particularly for children, senior citizens, and families who remain hesitant to return to their homes due to continuing seismic activity.
Beyond immediate relief, Color Your World Foundation is preparing to support long-term recovery efforts. Plans include the rehabilitation of earthquake-damaged classrooms ahead of the new school year and the implementation of livelihood programs aimed at helping affected families rebuild their communities and restore their sources of income.
“Project Bigkis is about bringing people, resources, and communities together during times of need,” said Michael Angelo Horfilla, Director for Corporate Social Responsibility at Casino Plus.
“As recovery efforts continue, we remain committed to helping affected families move forward and rebuild with confidence.”
Color Your World Foundation’s ongoing response is being coordinated with local government units and partner organizations as relief and rehabilitation efforts continue across earthquake-affected areas in Mindanao.
